Week 4
Things just keep getting better over here at IB. This was the week that saw the second and third planks go on both port and starboard sides of the boat. This included beveling the garboards and second planks, and even creating gains at the fore and aft ends of all planks. What's more, the kids got to experience for the first time the joy of riveting. They pre-drilled, hammered their rivets in, capped them with roves, and mushroomed the nubs to create tightly sealed planks. They worked a lot on a second set of oars, and shaped, planed and sanded the mast. They also took on splicing dock lines. Things are definitely heating up!
